BELGRADE JOINS IN THE ST PATRICK’S DAY

Celts return to banks of the rivers’ Danube and Sava in Belgrade

For the first time in the Western Balkans, a major city – Capital of Serbia, Belgrade will join in Tourism Ireland’s Global Greening campaign on St Patrick’s Day 2015. 

Belgrade’s iconic Ada Bridge, which traverses City of Belgrade over the River Sava, will be illuminated green at sunset on St Patrick’s Day, 17th March 2015.

We are pleased to become the first major city in the Western Balkan’s to join Tourism Ireland’s Global Greening campaign”, said Miodrag Popović, Director of the Belgrade Tourism Board.

As Belgrade is a city founded by Celts (Singidunum), we are happy to announce the Celts and St Patrick’s return to the banks of the Belgrade rivers’ Danube and Sava”, Mr Popovic added.

The Illuminations takes place as part of the Belgrade Irish Festival, a 9 day festival of Irish music (Lisa Hannigan); week of Irish Films; Yeats 150 Celebrations with poetry and plays (with visiting Dublin Theatre company Just the Lads (performing Dreaming of the Bones), taking place between the 13th and 22nd of March.
