At the recently held World Half Marathon Championships in Cardiff in the UK is represented by the "Belgrade Marathon" as a possible candidate for the organization of this tournament in 2020.
At a meeting with Paul Hardy (Paul Hardy), director of the sector for competition of the World Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF), presented opportunities of "Belgrade Marathon" and City of Belgrade to organize this important competition of the series IAAF. The meeting was attended by Dejan Nikolić, director of "Belgrade Marathon" and Miodrag Popovic, acting Director of the Tourist Organization of Belgrade.
Dejan Nikolić has presented opportunities "Belgrade Marathon" as a possible future organizers and on this occasion together with the IAAF concluded that "Belgrade Marathon" meets all the criteria necessary for the organization of the World Cup.
Miodrag Popovic presented the potentials of Belgrade as a tourist destination, stressed the role of the national airline Air Serbia in quality ties with the whole world, presented outstanding hotel capacity and continuous improvement of tourism infrastructure in Belgrade, as well as the excellent results of the tourism industry in Belgrade recently. Popovic also highlighted the ongoing efforts of the City of Belgrade to organize major world events, especially sports, in order to further the presentation of Belgrade and Serbia as attractive tourist destinations.
Next World Championship in the Half Marathon, 23 in a row, will be held in Valencia in 2018.
