The “Days of Belgrade” festival
The “Days of Belgrade” festival will be traditionally celebrated for the 10th year in a row, between April 16th to 19th, with a variety of cultural and educational programs. This year, the event will be held at the time of the great Christian holiday EASTER, therefore, for the first time this year, the program will include the Eastern concert of the Belgrade Chamber Choir under the baton of Vladimir Marković, which will be held in the City Hall.
Owing to the Tourist Organization of Belgrade, Belef Center and cultural institutions of the City of Belgrade, citizens and guests of our capital city will, like in previous years, this year again have an opportunity to enjoy in a number of programs. For the first time this year, “Days of Belgrade” will have a music and sports day in the Pioneer Town, then the program called “Following Andrić’s steps through Belgrade”, and a tour through Svetogorska Street, square “Kopitareva gradina” and cultural monument “Jevrem Grujić’s House”. Part of the program will also be dedicated to a formal opening of the Supernatural Ecology Park on Ada Huja peninsula, which is also a novelty in this year’s festival.
“Days of Belgrade” are dedicated to important historical dates in the history of our city. The first date is important because on April 16th, 878, the Slavic name of Belgrade (Beograd) was first mentioned in a written document – a letter of Pope John VII to the Bulgarian Khan Boris, while on April 19th, 1867, Belgrade was finally liberated from nearly three-and-a-half-century long occupation, after the last Ottoman commander, Ali Riza Pasha, symbolically handed over the town keys to Prince Mihailo in Kalemegdan, and Belgrade once again became a Serbian town.
Like in all previous years, the Tourist Organization of Belgrade will actively participate in “Days of Belgrade” with the best sightseeing, interactive traditional crafts workshops and exhibitions of souvenirs.
The programs which make a part of this year’s event will help citizens and guests of Belgrade learn more about the essence of celebrating “Days of Belgrade”. Starting with a walk though the archaeological cite of Ancient Roman Singidunum and continuing with city sightseeing in a tram tour, our fellow citizens will be introduced to the history and beauty of the city we live in.
