BEETHOVEN MARATHON

21. Jun 2020.

The year 2020 marks an important jubilee: the 250th anniversary of the birth of Ludwig van Beethoven. All over Germany and Europe, orchestras are preparing to celebrate this great composer. The Belgrade Philharmonic and the Dortmund Philharmonic are planning an exceptional project: The 2020 Beethoven Marathon. In one single day, we will perform all nine symphonies by Ludwig van Beethoven. This music marathon is a uniquely powerful demonstration that provides a specific insight into the development of Beethoven's style and music in general, which have defined this composer to a great extent to this very day. This will be a special pan-European holiday; partners in this project are the Belgrade Philharmonic and the Dortmund Philharmonic.

The Beethoven Marathon will be held in Belgrade on June 21, 2020, at the Kolarac Concert Hall. A week later, on June 28, 2020, it will be repeated at the Dortmund Concert Hall. Both orchestras in both cities will perform eight symphonies in alternate succession, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. with several breaks, before the grand finale when they join together at 8 p.m. to perform the Ninth Symphony, the famous Ode to Joy, where they will be joined by the Slovak Philharmonic Choir and four international soloists: Lenneke Ruiten, soprano, Michaela Selinger, mezzo-soprano, Brenden Patrick Gunnell, tenor, and Thomas E. Bauer, baritone.
