Building of the Library of the City of Belgrade
The Library of the City of Belgrade at Knez Mihailova 56 was built as the “Srpska kruna” (“Serbian Crown”) Hotel in 1869, in the style of romanticism.
It was the most modern, representative and best equipped hotel in Belgrade of the time. It was likely built by the wealthy merchant family Krsmanović. The building of the “Srpska kruna” hotel stands at the forefront of an intensive process of Europisation of Belgrade during the second half of the 19th century, a process of intense development of Belgrade architecture. The building architecture is eclectic with elements of renaissance and other styles.
