Belgrade Open Pre-Moot
On 25 March 2012 the Tourist Organization of Belgrade held a reception in Belgrade City Hall for participants of the fifth annual Belgrade Open Pre-Moot, the preparation tournament for participation at the Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot, the world’s biggest moot court competition in the area of international trade law and international commercial arbitration, which takes place every spring since 1994 in Vienna. The Willem C. Vis Moot gathers the students from more than 300 law faculties from all over the world and centers on a simulation of international commercial arbitration before which a dispute arising out of the sales contract is being resolved.
In order to provide the students a better opportunity to prepare for the Moot, many universities organize pre-moot tournaments. In 2008, the University of Belgrade Faculty of Law started organizing the Belgrade Open Pre-Moot and it has been holding it ever since during the weekend preceding the Vienna Moot. Over the years, the Belgrade Open Pre-Moot developed into the biggest pre-moot in Europe, gathering more universities than similar events organized in other European capitals, such as Paris, London, the Hague, Stockholm, Munich, Madrid, etc. At this year’s Belgrade Open Pre-Moot 37 universities from 26 countries from all over the world (Europe, Asia, Australia, North and South America) took part. In other words, more than 400 students, academics, arbitrators, judges, lawyers and in-house counsels came to Belgrade in order to join the fifth Belgrade Open Pre-Moot.
Welcoming the participants of the Belgrade Open Pre-Moot, Mr. Dejan Veselinov, the director of the Tourist Organization of Belgrade reminded the guests of the tourist attractions that Belgrade offers and expressed his wish that they would include our capital in the list of their frequent tourist destinations. Ms. Milena Djordjevic, Lecturer at the University of Belgrade Faculty of Law and Secretary-General of the organizing committee of the Belgrade Open Pre-Moot thanked the Tourist Organization of Belgrade аnd the City Hall for their generous help and support in organizing this important event and shared her hope that the fruitful cooperation between the University of Belgrade Faculty of Law and the Tourist Organization of Belgrade shall resume and that the joint efforts of these two institutions will result in bringing even more guests from abroad to our capital city.
