Even in the Neolithic Era people used this favorable location by the river and established a settlement called Taurunum during the Celtic and Roman periods. Gardoš is the highest point with a wonderful view of whole Zemun, the Danube and Belgrade. According to legends Zemun is remembered as a settlement of fishermen, craftsmen and fruit and vegetable vendors; today, with its cultural and historical monuments and traditional hospitality, it receives numerous visitors who enjoy the national cuisine and intimate ambience in its numerous restaurants.
